Step-by-step solutions for the most common technical issues

A beeping panel usually indicates one of these issues:

Low Battery: Check the battery indicator on your panel. Replace batteries in sensors if needed.
Communication Error: The panel may have lost connection. Check your internet connection or cellular signal.
Sensor Tamper: A sensor cover may be loose. Check all sensors and ensure covers are snapped on securely.
Faulted Zone: A door or window may be open. Check all entry points.

Quick Tip: On most IQ panels, tap the alert message on screen to see exact details about the issue.

If your camera feed isn't loading, try these steps:

Check Power: Make sure the camera is plugged in or has charged batteries.
Check Wi-Fi Signal: Cameras need a strong Wi-Fi signal to stream reliably.
Restart the Camera: Unplug the camera for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
Restart the App: Force close the mobile app and reopen it.

If you're still having issues after these steps, contact support — there may be a hardware issue.

Follow these steps to restore notifications:

Open the DEFCON Alarm App and tap "More" on the bottom right tab
Go to Notifications and make sure "Push Notifications" is switched "On"
Check Phone Settings: Go to your phone Settings → Notifications → find the DEFCON/Alarm app and ensure notifications are enabled
Check Do Not Disturb: Make sure Do Not Disturb mode isn't silencing alerts
Reinstall the App: If issues persist, delete and reinstall the app, then log back in

A communication failure means the panel can't reach the monitoring center:

Check Internet: Verify your home internet is working.
Restart Router & Panel: Power cycle both your router and the alarm panel.
Check Cellular Backup: If you have cellular backup, the system should switch automatically. If both fail, contact support.

To change your master code on most IQ panels:

Swipe down from the top of the screen and tap Settings
Enter your current master code
Tap User Management
Select the user you want to edit (usually "Master User")
Tap Change Code and enter a new 4 or 6-digit code
Confirm the new code and tap Save

Don't share your master code. Create separate user codes for family members or guests.

If you accidentally trigger your alarm:

Disarm Immediately: Enter your user code on the keypad to silence the alarm.
Answer the Phone: The monitoring center will call you. Answer and provide your verbal passcode.
If You Miss the Call: The monitoring center will dispatch authorities. Call our support line immediately at 317-593-5993.
Stay Calm: False alarms happen — our team is trained to handle them quickly.

Answers to common questions about your DEFCON Security system

Test Mode prevents false dispatches while you test sensors, alarms, and communication. Test mode typically lasts 1-2 hours. You can place your system on test two ways:

Call us at 317-593-5993 and we'll place your account in Test Mode
DEFCON Mobile App: Tap "More" on the bottom tab, then go to Monitoring Settings → System Test Mode

The backup battery on your alarm panel typically lasts 24-48 hours without power, depending on usage and age of the battery. If you have cellular backup, the system will also maintain communication with the monitoring center during outages.

You can easily add a new user from the DEFCON Alarm App:

Open the app and tap the "More" tab at the bottom
Tap Users
Press the + sign and fill out the new user's information
Choose an access level for the code: At All Times (unrestricted), Restricted Schedule (set specific days/times), or Temporary Access (one-time or date range)
Save to sync the new user to your panel and any connected smart locks

You can also add or delete users directly on your IQ panel under Settings → User Management.

Our standard motion detectors feature pet immunity up to 40 pounds. If you have larger pets, let us know during installation — we can use specialized motion detectors rated for larger animals.
